History of JA Foodservice

1993 - 2008

Since 1993, JA Foodservice Corporation has been serving older adults and school children nutritious food in a variety of diets. We now produce several thousand meals per day for Congregate and Home Delivered Meal Programs, Day Cares, Head Start and Schools in Lower SW Michigan and Northern Indiana.

JA Foodservice has been contracting the Senior Nutrition Services of Benton Harbor, MI since 1993 for Hot Home Delivered, Congregate, Cold Supper Sack, and Frozen Meals in a three county area. We have also been the foodservice provider since 1994 for the SW Michigan Correctional Facility in Benton Harbor, serving them breakfast, lunch and dinner 365 days a year.

We have been delivering to Allegan County Head Start and Senior Services since 2002 on a daily basis. From 1996-2004 we were the contracted foodservice provider to Head Start in Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties in Northern Indiana, delivering 1400 breakfast, lunch and snacks per day to over 50 sites in our Hot/Cold Delivery trucks.

JA Foodservice continues to be a job-training site for the autistic and/or handicapped young adults through numerous community-based, vocational training programs. In 1996-97 we received the Business of the Year Award for our contributions to these programs.

In 2004 J&R Packaging, Inc., a subsidiary corporation that ships shelf stable food nationwide, merged into JA Foodservice. We also purchased an 8,000 square foot manufacturing and storage facility and built and equipped a new kitchen. This kitchen services all of Northern Indiana and the Southern tip of Michigan.

Besides quality of food, we are committed to quality of service for all of our programs. We are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that a client does not go hungry.
